According to the mayor of Athens, the design for this parking facility is not only “aesthetically compatible with the unique historic character of downtown Athens,” but also “establishes a new standard for future development in downtown Athens by demonstrating how contemporary architecture can be a good neighbor.”
This compact, 8-level parking deck accommodates 345 cars. Designed for the historic district of downtown Athens, Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects chose proportions, window patterns, and materials like those of nearby buildings. The exterior consists of brick and precast concrete over a reinforced-concrete frame. The deck received a design award for Outstanding Achievement in design from the Georgia Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
